Justin views the Old Goat as his opportunity to experiment and innovate, he always says the Old Goat is the best wine he can create with what the harvest has to offer. This wine is a reflection of Justin’s passion and his dedication to crafting something truly special. Each vintage of the Old Goat tells its own story and no two vintages are ever the same.
Justin’s Tasting Notes:
I was really happy with the nose on this wine. It takes some time to open up, but showed a lot of character once it did. There is a wonderful blend of dark dried fruit character mixed with herbal notes and an earthiness that I really enjoyed. The acid on the palate has totally fused with the tannins and oak. It’s balanced, I dare say seamless, but vibrant and refreshing. The oak doesn’t overpower the palate or the nose. This might be the prettiest and most elegant wine I’ve made to date.
2022 Ciel du Cheval Cabernet Sauvignon
- 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
- 100% Ciel du Cheval Vineyard
- 19 months in 55% new French oak & 45% neutral French oak
Ciel du Cheval is one of Justin’s favorite vineyards, renowned for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Located on Red Mountain, this vineyard is celebrated for its unique terrior and is farmed with meticulous care and precision. This fruit comes from Clone 337, which originates from Bordeaux, France.
Justin’s Tasting Notes:
2022 was a stellar vintage in WA state and I am so pleased with the quality and complexity from this harvest. This wine opens up with more pronounced red fruit notes, raspberry and cherry. There is a slightly herbaceous quality, which adds depth to the mid palate. It has a smooth, velvety texture with well-integrated tannins.
2024 Rosé of Mourvèdre
- 79% Elephant Mountain & 21% Portteus Vineyard
- 79% Mourvedre
- 21% Zinfandel
The Rosé of Mourvèdre is a vibrant and refreshing wine that is perfect for sunny days. We love rosé for its bright fruit flavors, aromatics, and lighter fare pairing options. Justin enjoys crafting rosé from Mourvedre grapes because the resulting wine tends to be more interesting and complex than typical rosés. This year he included Zinfandel grapes which typically give a bit more fruit characteristics and an opportunity to explore a new grape variety and vineyard for rosé.
Justin’s Tasting Notes:
On the nose is a fruit characteristic that is reminiscent of watermelon and white peach. There is a lifted note as well that reminds me of fresh flowers. The palate is light, bright, and crisp. The watermelon notes really come through on the finish. This should be lovely on warm summer evenings and pair well with salads, pastas, and bbq.
2024 Sauvignon Blanc
- 100% Sauvignon Blanc
- 72% Roza Hills & 28% Sugar Loaf Vineyards
This vintage Justin sourced fruit from Roza Hills located in the upper Yakima Valley and Sugar Loaf, which neighbors Elephant Mountain vineyard. Justin specifically chose these vineyards due to the clone of Sauvignon Blanc planted in both locations. This particular clone is known for producing fruit that leans towards the citrus spectrum, resulting in bright, zesty flavors that are perfect for sunny weather.
Justin’s Tasting Notes:
On the nose is a pretty bouquet of lime, lemon and floral character. Behind it are subtle tropical fruit notes combined with a nice mineral/wet rock character. The palate is light, bright and crisp with a pleasant plumpness on the attack that doesn’t overwhelm the palate but provides some weight and texture.

This blend showcases the best of four of our favorite Yakima Valley vineyards. By carefully combining these distinct sites, we've created a wine that is beautifully balanced, intensely aromatic, full-bodied, and a quintessential expression of Cabernet Sauvignon grown here.
Justin’s Tasting Notes:
This wine started off approachable but has just continued to evolve while in the bottle. With bright cherry, cassis, and slight oak on the nose. Followed up with ripe huckleberry and an herbal character. Round tannins, light to medium bodied.
2022 Two Blondes Cabernet Sauvignon
- 100% Two Blondes Vineyard
- 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
- 50% New French Oak and 50% Neutral Oak
Our enduring partnership with Two Blondes Vineyard, now spanning over ten vintages, speaks to the exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon this site consistently yields. Located in the upper Yakima Valley, this vineyard offers a unique expression of the varietal, marked by captivating aromatics and elegant fruit. This vineyard, a particular favorite of Brooke's, showcases those qualities beautifully, with a soft, round palate and delightful cherry and cinnamon notes.
Justin’s Tasting Notes:
The aromatics of this wine are my favorite. Delicate lavender blossoms with ripe blueberry and subtle leafy notes. Ripe huckleberry flavors take center stage, balanced by a touch of herbaceousness. Silky tannins and a light-to-medium body are enlivened by a surprising depth and a satisfying finish.
